Join Jilly Payne, Archive Film Programmer at The Box, for a talk that explores the use of its collections in the two Film Commissions that were created in 2018 based on the theme of Revolutions.

Jilly’s talk will look at how the 2018 visual artists used the archive to explore their understanding of a constantly changing technological world and the role that artificial intelligence plays.

Bite size talk: Chris Bailey and Ieuan Jones: Of Monsters

Join filmmakers Chris Bailey and Ieuan Jones, winners of The Arts Institute Film Commission 2018 with their film, 'Of Monsters', as they discuss the development of their two-part film from their earlier ideas of writing a play.

They will also take you through the process of navigating the collection at the South West Film & Television Archive (SWFTA) and what they are planning on working on next.

The great big tiny penguin sell-off!

Miniature works of penguin art are being sold for charity.

Living Coasts has put 16 penguins, each 15 centimetre tall and beautifully decorated, up for sale on the charity’s website.

Designs include a punk penguin with a Mohican, Harry Potter, a Wagnerian Valkyrie, Superman, a peacock penguin, a Dalek penguin and a Damien Hirst inspired design using 1800 rhinestones.

Eleven young people from across the city are welcoming the public to an exhibition of work from British and International artists at Radiant Gallery on Derrys Cross this month.

Tuesday 19th August will be the first in a series of five “r[eff]uge” exhibitions from Effervescent, the social enterprise that recently converted an old bank into Radiant: a cultural laboratory and tea room.

Effervescent is an arts lab, which works across art forms to create extraordinary projects.

r[eff]uge is a curating project supported by Arts Council England, BIG Lottery and Plymouth...

Jane Fradgley - Held

A photographic document of Strong Clothing, the detailed dresses used to restrain patients in late 19th and early 20th century asylums, instigating a dialogue about histori and contemporary methods of confinement and control.

Sarah Bennett - Wall-wounds

An investigation into methods of containment and coercion, focused on a former 19 th century lunatic asylum at Exminster near Exeter. Wall-wounds (found) and Wall-wounds (fabricated) are two series of photographic images from this project.
