Exhibition - FRESH AIRS

We hit the refresh button with this exhibition of fresh new work inspired by the sea

FRESH AIRS presents four artists who are inspired by the sea and coast of Devon and Cornwall. Each has a different style but all are passionate about this beautiful part of the world. Their enthusiasm and fresh approach is just what we need right now, as we come out of hibernation and tentatively return to normal life. Anthony Amos - Through The Surf

Exhibition of Paintings by Anthony Amos - Far Horizons

Influenced by Rembrandt and Turner, Anthony Amos's paintings have a unique raw power that is impossible to ignore. It takes someone very special to take an old rusting hull and turn it into a thing of beauty. And yet that is exactly what the late marine artist Anthony Amos (1950-2010) did in his stunning paintings. Drawing on his vast experience of life at sea, Amos created beautiful paintings that bring to life scenes from a bygone era. Anthony Amos was born in Bristol in 1950. At the age of 16 he joined the Merchant Navy and spent the next twenty five years at sea working on trawlers,...

Space to Breathe - Barry Kelly

Space to Breathe: Barry Kelly at The Brownston Gallery

Every summer we eagerly await the delivery of the new collection from Barry Kelly. His paintings are always so full of light, sun and warmth. Somehow or other he always takes his work another step forward, another new development that reflects his growing talent as an artist.

This summer is no exception. His colours are bright and true and his skies are so full of promise and wonder. His foregrounds are complex, little miniature works on their own which compel and entrance. Each painting as a whole represents a snapshot of an element of the land of the South Hams. Barry captures...

Jerry Browning - Earth Lines

Exhibition: Jerry Browning - Earth Lines

British Abstract artist Jerry Browning has produced a stunning new collection of work inspired by the estuaries, bays and headlands around the Camel River, Padstow Bay, Rock and the surrounding Cornish coastline.

Taking advantage of the enforced quiet and solitude during lockdown, Browning was able to roam the area undisturbed, finding the perfect vantage points along the coast path and inland walks, where he could spend all day and every day, capturing the magnificent landscape spread out before him.

The new collection has a renewed freshness, a clarity, to the work on the...

The talk will be filmed live and a video link will be put on the website.

Buttercups at Ide by Joe Webster

Marks of Nature Exhibition

Our first Exhibition of the year brings together three very different artists from the south west, John Grice , Joe Webster and Ellie Verrecchia , who each have a true love of the natural world which they celebrate in their paintings. Their landscapes and seascapes of the local coastline and countryside are exceptional. John has produced some fantastic new work. Joe likes to mix things up with a bit of street art giving an edge to his paintings, and Ellie's gentle works on paper are breathtakingly beautiful.

You can browse the exhibition here and if you would like to see more...

A Winter's Tale

A WINTER'S TALE - EXHIBITION OF SOME BEAUTIFUL WORKS OF ART TO LIFT THE WINTER GLOOM

AT THE BROWNSTON GALLERY, MODBURY

This winter we are all really missing the simple things - a proper chat with our friends, a drink at our favourite pub, a big hug from someone we love - so it's really important to do what we can to keep our spirits up and look forward to happier times, which are surely just around the corner.

One way we try to keep positive and healthy is to surround ourselves with beautiful and meaningful works of art, works which are created with a great deal of...

Emily Powell’s evocative paintings serve as a panacea in our troubled times

Artist Emily Powell uses a vibrant and juxtaposing colour pallet to create works that inspire positive, emotive responses. Inspired by the aquamarine of the sea she sees daily from her studio balcony or the vibrant pinks from berries on local walks, she captures the essence of land and sea in technicolour.

Emily Powell began painting at a young age, following the death of her father...
