Curated by Nick Hand and The Letterpress Collective, this exhibition brings together photography, film, letterpress prints, and the words of makers who dedicate their life to an unusual or rare craft or passion. Nick gathered these stories on epic cycle rides: from Land’s End to John O’ Groats, round the coast of Britain and Ireland and up the Hudson River - with a printing press on the back of his bike.

Open daily, 10am-5.30pm. Free entry.

Head Above Water reveals the embodied imagination of the swimmer’s experience through film, photography, sculpture, drawing and poetry. Following on from the success of the international Plymouth Contemporary Open, we are delighted to partner with Effervescent and the Plymouth History Centre to launch the first Plymouth Young Contemporary Open; an exhibition that will showcase the wealth of creative talent Plymouth has to offer.

Responding to the theme GROW, the exhibition will feature selected artwork from an open call to artists and creative producers aged 4 to 30 years. It will run across two city centre sites: Peninsula Arts Gallery and Radiant Gallery.

The relationship between art and mathematics has a long, rich and complex history, with both artists and mathematicians drawing inspiration from one another to investigate new ideas.

In 2015, to mark their 150th anniversary, The London Mathematical Society selected artists, Mark Francis and George L–Legendre, to create new work drawing on mathematical ideas.

The exhibition brings these new works together, alongside visual material from the mathematicians, with whom they worked, including: Professor Sir Roger Penrose (University of Oxford), Dr Iain Moffatt (Royal Holloway)...

Dream Cargo: Stanley Donwood's Artwork for J.G. Ballard Publications

Stanley Donwood, artist and writer, received an email from J.G. Ballard’s publishers asking if he would create cover art and design for 21 of the author’s works. In Donwood’s words:

“As Ballard is both arguably the finest and most peculiar novelist to work in English in the 20th century, and perhaps my favourite writer, the outcome of that email was a foregone conclusion."

Council House opens its doors to the public for graduate art exhibition

An exhibition of striking artwork by Plymouth graduates will be on display as the Council House opens its doors for public viewings.

Paintings, prints, photos, ceramics and sculptures feature in the display borrowed from degree shows at Plymouth University, Plymouth College of Art and the University of St Mark and St John.
