As part of Dying Matters Awareness Week, running from 8 – 14 May, Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust is marking the nationally promoted week by encouraging people to talk openly about dying, death and bereavement.

Throughout the week, events and activities are being held across the country to raise awareness about end of life issues. This year’s theme is ‘what can you do?’ with the aim to get more people active in planning for dying and death and helping support those who may need it in times of grief and bereavement.

As a joint effort between St Luke's at Derriford, Macmillan, Mustard Tree and the Co-op Funeral Service, awareness roadshows will be held in different areas around the Trust. These include:

Tuesday 9 May, from 9am - 12pm in the Level 7 Restaurant, and 2pm – 4pm at the Level 3 Cafe.

Wednesday 10 May, from 10am - 12pm and from 2pm - 4pm at the Mustard Tree.

Thursday 11 May, from 11am - 2pm in Coffeeshark at the Postgraduate Medical Centre.

This year, St Luke’s have launched an Advance Care Plan (ACP) card, which will hold details that will alert a medical professional that an   ACP is in place and should, if possible, be followed.

The card will be the size of a credit card and will include your name and your next of kin or significant other’s details; someone who is fully aware of your wishes, where your ACP is held, and who can be contacted if the time comes.
