Two more police station front desks will be available to the public from Monday 5 February with the opening of Honiton and Ilfracombe enquiry offices.

They are the latest to open in one of the biggest campaigns in the country to improve police contact and plans to open even more enquiry offices have also been announced.

From Monday 5 February, people in both Honiton and Ilfracombe will be able to report a crime in person or just ask for help at the newly opened office.

Members of the public will have access to the walk-in service where they can speak to trained staff who can help with crime reporting, crime prevention advice and help with accessing victim services.

The Police Enquiry Offices will be open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 3pm and follow the successful opening of several front desks across the region.

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Alison Hernandez, said: “Police Enquiry Offices are places of safety where the public can get help and advice and offer an alternative to the phone in terms of a method of contact.

“Working with local partners on this project has been one of the highlights of my career, and it has been hugely grateful to see the impact this investment has made in our communities, whose contribution via taxation has made it all possible.”

It will bring the total number of police station front desks open to the public across Devon and Cornwall to 27 by 2025.

Analysis by Devon and Cornwall Police and the Police and Crime Commissioner suggests most residents of Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly support more investment in this project and an accessible face-to-face policing service delivered through enquiry offices.

The newest front desks come as part of Alison Hernandez’s project to create an additional 18 police enquiry offices (PEOs) around the force area.

The commissioner has also announced that the next four Police Enquiry Offices to open will be in Exeter city centre, Ivybridge, Liskeard and Tavistock.
