A lively community and music event taking place in Exmouth’s Manor Gardens in August is open to all.

Hive Live is organised by young people from Exmouth through the charity Space Youth Services, which runs eight youth clubs across the county, including The Hive in the town’s Imperial Road.

The free event includes performances from bands, solo artists, instrumentalists and dancers, plus this year there will be a comedy set. All performers, aged between 11 and 19, attend the youth clubs - and are spending lots of time rehearsing in the run up to the day.

Senior Youth Support Worker Mia Dendy said: “Hive Live has been running for several years now, and it’s always a really vibrant occasion.

“As well as being an opportunity for young people to perform for family and friends, this is a fantastic day of free entertainment for local people and visitors to Exmouth.”

Although the final programme is still in development, last year’s Hive live featured two bands, five soloists, three dancers – and a very popular ‘drum off’. “We’re hoping the drum off will be making an appearance again this year,” added Mia.

There will also be plenty of team games and fun activities for all the family, including laser tag, a climbing wall, face painting – and the chance to enjoy rolling around in a giant Zorb! And close by, at The Hive itself, Space's digital team will be running a ‘gaming arena’.

Hive Live is an opportunity for Space Youth Services to show the local community what the charity is all about, and some of the activities and support offered at the youth centres. In addition, Exmouth’s Esteem Team will be on hand to talk about their work with children and young people who have additional needs and/or struggle with their mental health, while NHS organisation C-Card will be available to discuss sexual health services for young people.

Although this is a free event, visitors will be encouraged to donate in return for taking part in activities, drop spare change into a collection bucket, or buy raffle ticket. Money raised will help fund future Hive Live events and will be used to continue providing a wide range of activities, sessions and support to benefit local young people in the community.

Hive Live takes place in Manor Gardens, Alexandra Terrace, Exmouth on Saturday August 4 from 12 to 5pm.
