A thriving Plymouth boatyard which is home to the UK’s largest “Indoor Marina” is seeing its on-site businesses expand and flourish, providing local employment opportunities in the marine trades.

Yacht Haven Quay in Plymstock is the base for a variety of growing marine businesses. Lewis Marine, an inboard and outboard marine engine sales and service company, has just declared a full order book resulting in the employment of another full-time engineer. The engineering firm, which was set up in 2013 and is run by owner Dan Lewis, has also been appointed an official dealer of Suzuki Outboards, adding to their existing product range which include Fischer Panda, Selva, Nanni, Webasto, Lofrans and Max Power.

Similarly, Nathan Bone Yacht Repairs & Refits has hit the waterfront running in 2018 by moving into new premises at Yacht Haven Quay. From a humble beginning less than two years ago as a “man in a van”, time-served shipwright Nathan and his growing four-man team have taken tenancy of a brand new boatshed and workshop, catering for vessels up to 50’ in length. The company’s workforce have over 50 years’ experience in the marine industry, working from as far afield as Tortola to Totnes, offering a range of marine services to boat owners. Nathan is now the regional distributor for Flexiteek Decking ™, an environmentally sound and increasingly popular alternative to traditional teak.

Will Rahder, Director at Yacht Haven Quay, expressed his delight that so many marine enterprises are flourishing in Plymouth. “It’s encouraging that the businesses based at our Dry Stack Marina and boatyard are seeing such an upturn in demand. This trend is also apparent across our sister sites at Turnchapel Wharf and Plymouth Yacht Haven, which confirms Plymouth’s importance as a destination for marine trades and boat owners. It’s particularly positive that with this growth, there are associated local job opportunities for both experienced and new entrants alike. We’re now all crossing our fingers for a warm, dry and sunny boating season!”
