Nicolas Moreton is one of the most exciting stone sculptors living and working in Britain today.

Described as “A modern master of the medium of stone carving” by Art Critic Tim Marlow,  Nicolas believes that it is the intimate conversation you have between the stone, tool and mind that allows the sculpture to possess a personality and a voice. A cultural magpie, Nicolas continually seeks different ways to present the elemental form of the human body, binding the past with the present, and anchoring it in nature through both tradition and ancient ritual.

Stone is by its nature ever present. Its character and personality spoke long before the presence of any human kind which arrived 2.5 million years ago. However, it’s importance, not only to our survival,is through humans wanting to express an image of “ourselves” in a permanent way to speak to their immediate communities and those yet to come.

Following his recent exhibition at New College, Oxford it seems fitting to show Andrew's beautiful sculptures alongside paintings by Jean Jones.  Jean was drawn to the ancient Standing Stones near her cottage on Dartmoor and they frequently feature in her paintings.

The Brownston Gallery is open every day except Sunday from 10am - 5pm.
