A regional housebuilder has widened its workforce as a student joins the ranks as part of their placement year.

Persimmon Homes Cornwall & West Devon will be joined by Juned Ali who is studying for a degree in accounting and finance at Plymouth University and will get experience of being in the workplace for his chosen profession.

Juned is originally from Launceston in Cornwall and chose to study his degree as he’s always “had a passion for numbers” and loves to “analyse complex financial information, and organising and interpreting information”.

He chose to do his placement at Persimmon as it is a “great opportunity to see how finance works in different sectors”.

Managing Director of Persimmon in Cornwall & West Devon, Adam Church, said: “I am delighted to have Juned join us for his placement – we look forward to seeing him develop his skills while helping the business deliver on its objectives for the coming year.

“Persimmon Cornwall & West Devon prides itself as a local business that engages with the communities it operates in, not just in the course of building homes but through actions such as helping out young people through demonstrating why the construction sector is a great one to work in, which we do, for example, through attending career fairs and placement opportunities.”

Juned Ali added: “I’m really looking forward to working for Persimmon as part of my placement. Not only will it be a great opportunity for me to learn about what it will be like to work in an accounting department, but I will get to work for a firm that is building the homes my generations desperately needs.

“It will be fascinating to work for what is perceived as a national business but, in reality, are based in the area they operate, works closely on the ground with communities, hiring local people to bring employment and housing benefits to areas across Plymouth, Cornwall, and West Devonshire.”
