The Y11 Rugby team from Ridgeway School had a “wonderful win” against Lipson Community college in their first home fixture recently.

The rugby team welcomed Lipson Community college to Moorland road in this season’s first full fixture.

“After hours of hard work and commitment in training sessions throughout terms 1 and 2 the boys were in good shape and took to the field with confidence,” said Director of Sport Andy Price.

Ridgeway struck first with a fine finish from flying winger Rhys Collings only to be outdone by a tremendous solo finish from in-form winger Jack Biscoe a few minutes later that was duly converted for the additional two points by Ridgeways speedy and experienced captain Cameron Goss.

Further tries by Collins, Goss and the powerful Callum Jerwood meant Ridgeway would record a record win against their city rivals in which was a tremendous game to watch. Despite a final strong attack that ended in a score for Lipson it wouldn’t be enough to confirm Ridgeway as the match winners. It was agreed by players, supports and impressed ‘teacher coach’ Mr Price that Jack Biscoe would be named ‘Man of the Match’ for his consistent tackling, clever passing and strong running.
