The Plymouth University Raiders have appointed Jay Marriott and David Brock as the Raiders' coaches for the 2013-14 season.

Marriott will be assisted by Brock. The appointments follow the dismissal of Gavin Love.

Jay Marriott told the Raiders' website: “It was a massive surprise and honour to be thought of for the new coach. We understand that we have to hit the ground running – there’s very little time for savouring the moment.

"Myself and David will be putting together a staff that will be able to support us. The style of play that we both like is something fresh to the city, a lot of energy, passion and excitement. The key term for now is “one family” and that is what this pre season will be all about.”

“There is a real air of positivity around the whole club,” said Raiders Chairman Bob Widdecombe. “It’s a whole new era for the club, trying to bring the whole basketball community in the area together. We’re looking forward to some very exciting basketball this year. Both Jay and David get on extremely well together, and that chemistry will feed down through the team.

"They’re both highly respected individuals, and with the success of the Raiders Academy in the first year, Jay has taken a growing interest with the South West youth teams. This has lead to him taking the opportunities to get involved with the England National team and Team GB Under 20s.”

Brock who arrives after spending a year coaching at Alabama University, said:

“I’m excited to be a part of a great programme at the Plymouth University Raiders and help to usher in a new era of basketball in the City,” said Brock. “The chance to work with a coach like Jay is great and I feel like we will both bring something new and exciting to the table, and embrace the style of basketball that I believe will produce an exciting winning team and titles.”
