Masters 2024: The UK’s Best Chance of Success

The annual mass migration of the world’s best golfers to Augusta has begun, which can only mean one thing, the Masters is just around the corner. The latest edition is shaping up to be another epic chapter in the history of this prestigious competition. Who is leading the way to claim the Green Jacket for the UK?

World Number 2 Rory McIlroy

Unsurprisingly, Rory McIlroy is the UK’s best shot at glory in Georgia. With the Masters 2024 bets starting to pile in, the Northern Irishman currently leads the odds as joint-favourite to lift the trophy at 8/1.

He featured heavily amongst the Masters tips last year but struggled to find his form, shooting 77 in his second round to miss the cut.

However, McIlroy has re-established his best form, and that performance remains an anomaly. The 34-year-old is so often the man for the big occasion, showcased by his impeccable record on the biggest stages. He has finished in the top 10 in an incredible seven of the last eight majors, with four top-fives and a second-place finish at August in 2022.

McIlroy has also shown glimpses of his best form in 2024, namely coming from 10 shots back at the halfway point to win the Dubai Desert Classic for a fourth time.

Tommy Fleetwood’s First Major Win?

Fleetwood is among the most talented players never to have won a major. It is no secret that the Masters has not been his favourite event. It is the only major he is yet to break the top 10 in, with his best finish a T16 in 2022.

For all of his Augusta struggles, his major form has been trending in the right direction for the past two years. Fleetwood ended 2023 in immense form, finishing T5 at the U.S. Open and T10 at The Open Championship before helping Team Europe to an emphatic Ryder Cup victory in Italy.

The Southport-born 33-year-old started 2024 as he means to go on, picking up an early DP World Tour win at the Dubai Invitational and just missing out on back-to-back triumphs as a result of McIlroy’s Desert Classic comeback.

2024 could be the year Tommy Fleetwood finally gets his hands on a major trophy.

Former U.S. Open Champion Matt Fitzpatrick

While Matt Fitzpatrick may not necessarily set the world alight when the Masters rolls around, he has been incredibly consistent in the first major of the year.

He has made the cut every year since 2016, with his best performances a T7 that year, as well as a T14 in 2022 and T10 in 2023.

The 29-year-old also has experience holding his nerve in the big moments, with his U.S. Open triumph testament to that. Fitzpatrick was joint-leader with Will Zalatoris going into the final day, shooting two-under to secure a one-shot victory.

He is another player who has had some early 2024 positives, finishing T14 at the Sentry and T15 at the Phoenix Open. Although an outside shot at 50/1, Fitzpatrick is the sort to plot his way around the course and build steadily toward a top-10 finish.
