Tom Merson, first place male, said: “This is the first time in five years that I have taken part in Plymouth’s Half Marathon, and as a local to the area, I am extremely pleased to finish in first place. The updated course route not only suited my running, but it was great to be able to take in so many scenic views, and soak up the support from the thousands of people that took the time to cheer us on. It was a thoroughly enjoyable event.”

4,283 runners took to the startline of the 13.1 mile race, cheered on by thousands of locals who filled the start and finish area around The Hoe, as well as the streets throughout the whole course. The race was started by Phil Jones, Managing Director of Babcock's Marine Division.

Organisers GO2 were delighted with the turnout and the inspirational crowd support shown by Plymouth residents. Jamie Warren, Marketing Manager, GO2 said: "Congratulations to each and every runner who crossed the line today. Despite rainy conditions, the Plymouth turnout of both runners and supporters for the event was fantastic, and the atmosphere was up there with some of the best we have ever seen. Each and every runner should feel extremely proud of what they achieved today, and we hope the events success will inspire many more to sign up for next years event!”

Official charity partners for the race, Cancer Research UK and Children’s Hospice South West, alongside CLIC Sargent who have partnered with the race for The Schools Challenge, thanked everyone who took part and who donated to their runners. Over 1,300 children took part in this years Schools Challenge.

In addition to the race partners, thousands of people took part in todays event to help fundraise for many more charities close to their hearts. Ryan Runacres completed the event for the Izzy Dix Memorial Group, his first of three challenges in 2014 to help young individuals that have been affected by bullying. Reigning Miss Devon Leanne Ward crossed the finish line in aid of Lady Taverners, a charity which gives a sporting chance to disadvantaged and disabled young people.
