The Devon and Cornwall Police and Crime Panel has today confirmed the appointment of Shaun Sawyer as Chief Constable. He has been the temporary Chief Constable since the departure of Stephen Otter early in 2012.

Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Hogg said:

"I am absolutely delighted that the Police and Crime panel has confirmed Shaun Sawyer as Chief Constable for Devon and Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. He was the outstanding candidate during the selection and interview process and has demonstrated a clear vision and strong leadership. We have already built an excellent working relationship, and I am now keen to build on that further as we develop our strategic policing plan for this area. This gives Shaun Sawyer the mandate to take his plans forward and I look forward to working closely with him."

Speaking after the panel meeting this morning, its Chairman, Devon County Councillor Roger Croad said:

"I am confident that with Mr Sawyer's expertise and leadership he will continue to provide an excellent policing service."
