This October, visitors to The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth can explore the sanctuary with the Haunted Hay Bales Halloween Hunt.

By following clues on their trail sheet, people will be able to search for the hidden Neddie characters around the sanctuary, while meeting some of the friendly resident donkeys along the way.

Perfect for all the family, and a great excuse to get out and about in the autumnal air, this activity combines fun, exercise and brainpower. Trail sheets cost £5 each and includes a prize on completion.

The character ‘Neddies’ are depictions of actual crocheted donkey figures, created by talented supporter Judith Crockford, who over the years, has created hundreds of individually themed ‘Neddies’, helping to raise funds for the animal welfare charity.

The October half term is the ideal time to visit the Sidmouth sanctuary before the evenings start to draw in. Surrounded by stunning countryside, the sanctuary has lots to offer including a new play area, a popular maze, engaging talks and exhibits, as well as hundreds of adorable donkeys to meet.

The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth is open seven days a week, from 9am to 5pm. Entry to the sanctuary is free, as is parking, and dogs on leads are welcome. Donations are of course welcome.

The Haunted Hay Bales Halloween Hunt runs until 2 November.
