A day of rugby and fundraising, organised by Ivybridge RFC, is due to take place on Saturday in aid of our Gold Dust Appeal.

Ivybridge RFC will host Ivybridge v Brixham in the latest National 3 South-West fixture at 2:30pm. After that match all the World Cup games will be shown on the big screen in the bar – culminating with England’s Group A game versus Wales – and there will also be fundraising activity, including a raffle and Guess the England Score.

The team chose the Gold Dust Appeal because one of the players, Dan Burnard, has a 14-month-old daughter, Isabelle, who is regularly brought to Derriford for treatment.

Dan said: “We want to support the Gold Dust Appeal as we feel it is vitally important for both parents and children that the hospital is as welcoming and supportive as possible. After spending so much time in hospitals locally and nationally over the last 12 months we have really come to understand how important a bright, colourful and interactive ward is.”

The Gold Dust Appeal is aimed at raising £100,000 to transform the children’s wards, creating a bright, welcoming environment on level 12 at Derriford Hospital. This will include tactile, colourful and interactive displays for patients and their families.

Anita Dykes, Matron for Paediatrics at Derriford Hospital, said: “This is another example of our community pulling together to raise money for our Gold Dust Appeal. Many people have visited level 12 in Derriford Hospital because their children need treatment and we are very grateful to all those, plus their friends and families, who want to help us in return.”

There is still a long way to go so, if you would like to get involved and help to fundraise for Gold Dust, please visit our Gold Dust page http://bit.ly/OurGoldDustAppeal and like us on Facebook.
