Police in Axminster were out and about in the town last week to lend their support to a fantastic project which helps feed local people.

Picnics in the Parks Axminster took place on Thursday (16 Feb) and families identified as vulnerable were offered free food by local charity Nourish.

Neighbourhood Team Leader, Sergeant Matt Beards said: “Nourish is a local charity, set up to provide food for vulnerable families, who may have fallen on hard times. There has been a lot of engagement from our Police Community Safety Officer Hayley Widger in helping set this up.

“This was a good opportunity for us to attend the event and engage with local people, listen to any concerns and see the fantastic work being done by Nourish for the community. A great cause and worthwhile for police to be around.”

Foxhill play park in Axminster was the first port of call for Mary and Karen from Nourish on Thursday morning and the charity fed around 100 people that day, including families on half term school break. Karen Taylor set up Nourish in 2019 to complement the existing local food banks and provide nutritious meals for anyone in need.
