Plymouth schoolgirl arrested after two staff 'attacks'

A Plymouth schoolgirl has been arrested for the second time in a week after two alleged attacks on a member of staff at the Mount Tamar school.

The girl, who has not been named, was first arrested on 16 October on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, and was bailed.

After the second incident on the 21 October, she was arrested on suspicion of assault. She has been bailed by police until 1 November.

The headteacher of the specialist residential school, Brett Storry said: “This incident needs to be kept in perspective.

“It involves a very young and vulnerable girl who needs the support and structure that school life brings.

“We don’t give up on our young people easily. I have a very talented and experienced group of staff, who are trained to manage situations and react appropriately. That is what happened.”

A Plymouth City Council spokeswoman, said: “The school has the offer of our support should they require it, however, the school has the situation well in-hand.”

Mount Tamar is described on its website as "a specialist residential school for young people aged 5 to 16 who have behaviour, emotional and social difficulties."

The school has students with complex learning difficulties and autism.
