Ten of thousands of people will be taking to The Hoe for the British Firework Championships and people are recommended to think how they are going to get to and from the event.

With the championships taking place on Tuesday 12 and Wednesday 13 August many of the city’s main car parks will be open 24 hours with Western Approach and Lambhay Hill open until midnight.

In addition the multi-storey car park behind the National Marine Aquarium and the Barbican lock gate will be open until 11pm. Drake Circus will also be operating extended opening hours until 1am offering parking at £4 for the evening.

A number of spaces for blue badge holders will be available on the Hoe Promenade being offered on a first come, first served basis. Access will be via Elliott Street from 5.30pm.

For those planning on driving, Madeira Road and Hoe Road will be closed on both days between 1pm and 11pm with some parking restrictions on Citadel Road from 4pm.

Car parks are expected to be full so it is advisable to travel by public transport where possible.

Special Park and Ride services are being provided especially for the event by First Devon and Cornwall, who will be running regular buses from the George Junction, Milehouse and Coypool sites on both nights.

PR1 will run every 15 minutes from the George with last inbound departure at 8.45pm, 8.49pm from The Future Inn and 9pm from Milehouse. PR2 will run every 15 minutes from Coypool with last inbound departure at 8.45pm.

After the Event services PR1 and PR2 will run from 10.10pm until all passengers have been cleared and will only pick up from Stop A11 on Royal Parade. Other City Centre stops- the Viaduct, Charles Street (Drake Circus Mall), Mayflower Street and Western Approach will NOT be served.

National Concessionary Bus Passes will be valid up until 11pm. For more information and timetables visit www.firstgroup.com/ukbus  or call First Devon and Cornwall on 0845 600 1420 or Travelline on 0871 200 2233.

For those planning on viewing the fireworks from Jennycliff a small limited amount of private parking will be available at Staddon Heights Golf Club.
