A popular North Devon coastal destination has the best ultrafast broadband coverage in the county according to Openreach

More than 280,000 homes and businesses across the county are among the one million in the South West that can now access Full Fibre broadband from dozens of providers using the Openreach network.

To mark the milestone, the UK’s biggest wholesale network provider has revealed the location in Devon with the highest levels of Full Fibre coverage.

In the beautiful twin villages of Lynmouth and Lynton, on the North Devon coastline, more than nine out of every 10 residents are able to upgrade to ultrafast, ultra-reliable Full Fibre broadband.  Other Devon locations to make the list include Exminster, Shiphay Collaton (Torbay), Paignton (Torbay), Okehampton and Topsham.

To date, more than £84 million[1] has been invested in upgrading Devon’s new Full Fibre network so far – and the build is continuing.  Bideford, Barnstaple, Exmouth, Totnes, Newton Abbot, Starcross, Honiton and Sidmouth are just some of the locations across the county where Openreach engineers are currently building new Full Fibre networks.

However, only around 35 per cent of people who can upgrade toultrafast Full Fibre broadband across Devon have done so – with thousands still missing out on the faster, more reliable services.

Openreach’s partnership director for the South West, Martin Williams said: “Our amazing engineers and build partners have done a wonderful job to help us reach this significant milestone.

“This Full Fibre upgrade is a huge boost for the region. We’re adopting a balanced build, bringing ultrafast speeds to the region’s biggest cities and towns as well as the most rural and coastal communities.  We’re not stopping at one million; people in the South West should visit the Openreach website to see if they can upgrade to Full Fibre already, or see when we’re coming to their area.”

Selaine Saxby, MP for North Devon said: “It’s great news that a North Devon location tops the list of best-connected places in Devon.  Openreach’s investment in the ultrafast upgrade of Lynton and Lynmouth will underpin much needed economic growth and prosperity”.

People can visit openreach.co.uk/ultrafastfullfibre to register for updates and check their postcode to see if services are available from their chosen provider. They can then contact their provider to upgrade to Full Fibre.

The Openreach network offers the widest choice of providers, such as BT, Sky, TalkTalk, Vodafone and Zen, which means people have lots of choice and can shop for the best deals.

You can find out more about the benefits of an upgrade to Full Fibre broadband on the Openreach website.
