Head to Buckland Abbey near Plymouth this weekend (22 and 23 July) for two days of jam-packed Elizabethan entertainment. Step back in time as the Abbey is transformed into a Tudor mansion with falconers on the lawn, Elizabethan dancing in the Great Hall, Tudor cooking in the Abbey kitchen and much, much more.

Eleanor Hopkinson, Visitor Operations and Experience Manager said: “We look forward to kicking off summer at Buckland Abbey with this fun filled and educational weekend. Visitors will have the opportunity to see what life was like in the Elizabethan period whilst also having plenty of fun”

The weekend also provides the perfect opportunity to see the Pym Mural Exhibition in the Nave gallery. The four murals created by artist Roland Pym were revealed last month, it is the first time in 10 years that they have all been available to view. The Buckland Abbey Collections & House team worked extensively for months to bring this display together.

Elizabethan weekend will launch Buckland Abbey’s Tudor themed summer of play. From the 22 July visitors will be able to immerse themselves in Tudor and nature themed activities across the gardens and inside the Great Barn and Abbey. Designed to give everyone a chance to access the past, there will be Tudor sports, an opportunity to act and dance Elizabethan style on the mini stage and be inspired by Tudor cooking in the sand kitchen on the Abbey lawn. Visitors can head into the Abbey for a peaceful moment in the ‘book nook’ where they can listen to a storyteller, read a story or create their own.

Please see the Buckland Abbey website for a full timetable of events for the weekend. Admission is free for National Trust members; normal admission applies for non-members. More information can be found at Family Fun at Buckland Abbey | National Trust.
