Plymouth City Council has just launched a city-wide survey for parents and carers.

The Brighter Futures survey aims to improve the Council’s understanding of the needs of parents and carers when young people are making transitions between secondary school and further education, employment or training.

Young people need extra support to take their first few steps into adulthood and all the changes can be a confusing and stressful time for their parents and carers, who may not always feel well equipped to inform them.

Councillor Terri Beer Cabinet Member for Children and Young people said: “By working closely with parents who want to share their personal experiences and contribute their views we will be able to co-design effective sources of information for their children.

“We’re hoping as many people as possible take part in this survey so we can make sure that we are able to provide an excellent signposting service to them, with a view to reducing the number of young people who do not participate in the education, employment or training opportunities they are entitled to.”

It's hoped that a new and improved careers information prospectus will be available in September this year.

The survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete and is open until 28 February.
