Canine event specialist A Doggy Day Out will bring the immensely popular Big Bark to Exeter Racecourse for the very first time on Saturday 7th October. The event was due to take place earlier in September but was sadly turfed by poor weather. Thanks to their dogged determination to create a fun day out for dog owning families locally, a new date is set, and everyone is keeping everything crossed for settled conditions.

Visitors and their dogs will have the chance to try out a range of canine orientated pursuits. Experts in their respective fields will invite visitors to try out activities such as Hoopers, Cani Cross and Parkour. For those inclined towards munching on tasty morsels instead, there’ll be a choice of more sedate activities based around scent-work and sausage detection.

The Big Bark Exeter will also see the launch of A Doggy Day Out’s Memory Tree. Owners are invited to write dedications to much loved pets they’ve lost on the tree. Dedications will then be buried in a special memory garden after the event and proceeds raised will be donated to local charities.

A Doggy Day Out will honour its pledge to support local animal charities even further in the Dog Show Ring. Visitors can choose from a collection of classes aimed at finding the cutest puppy, the waggiest tail, the best fancy dressed dog and more. All proceeds from the show will go towards the welfare of dogs and cats at Gables.

Meanwhile in the main show ring, local canine experts Lure Crazy will host a Chase the Bunny event allowing dogs to have a go at coursing a lure just like they do on tele. Sessions will take place throughout the day culminating in a championship where winners from earlier races will compete against each other.

No canine focussed event is complete without an opportunity to shop and even bag some early Christmas gifts. The Big Bark won’t disappoint with an awesome choice of quality gift and dog-product stalls to browse and buy from.

As Jo Macaskie, A Doggy Day Out Director says ‘We’re excited to be bringing the much loved Big Bark to Exeter Racecourse for the first time. Lots of planning and organisation has gone into the event so that we can be sure it offers the best day-out possible for dogs and their families locally. We hope that the day will allow visitors to cast aside the daily grind for a while, and we love sharing our passion for our pets in this way’.
