Exmouth’s outstanding success in the Britain in Bloom National Finals 2023 follows the award of Gold and the town’s recognition as the Champion of Champions at this year’s South West in Bloom Awards.

Exmouth in Bloom’s, East Devon District Council’s (EDDC) and Exmouth Town Council’s (ETC) combined efforts were marked highly in all three judging categories of Horticulture, Environment, and Community, resulting in a coveted Gold award.

Exmouth in Bloom’s vibrant, co-ordinated colour theme throughout the town, and EDDC’s Parks and Gardens team’s sustainable planting were highlighted and praised.

Gerry Bassett, Chair of Exmouth in Bloom, said: “Exmouth in Bloom has worked hard over the last two years to bring our local councils together to raise horticultural standards throughout the town and are pleased to have been the catalyst for the exceptional teamwork that has been evident in this year’s entry”.

Councillor Geoff Jung, EDDC’s Portfolio Holder for Coast, Country, and Environment, added: “This fantastic team of volunteers work closely with EDDC’s StreetScene staff and ETC to make Exmouth the best town in the South West for its fabulous floral displays and wonderful green spaces.

"Exmouth in Bloom volunteers do amazing work around the town, working efficiently and collectively together with the two councils’ staff on many projects, from designing colourful planting schemes, to sourcing plants, installing baskets and troughs, purchasing new planters, organising the clearance of beds, replanting beds and the important watering and maintenance. A well earnt joint effort to all!”

Councillor Olly Davey, ETC's Chairman and Mayor, said: “ETC is really pleased to be working with Exmouth in Bloom and EDDC towards a vibrant and environmentally friendly town.

"We are pleased to support and enable wonderful volunteers to carry out litter picking, planting, painting, and delivering amazing projects that help raise the profile of the town.

"ETC’s town maintenance team provide numerous flower displays including towers, troughs and hanging baskets, as well as special verges which promote some quite rare wildlife.

"These are coordinated with Exmouth in Bloom's displays, encompassing a hybrid of colour, bee pollinators and sustainable plants.”
