Nurses and staff at Derriford Hospital have said a huge thank you to Josh Mark and his mum Amanda Menear, who paid a special visit to Moorgate Ward to generously donate £3,423.00.

Josh had a bike accident in April 2014 and following surgery, had to stay on Moorgate Ward for eight days.

This year, his family decided that they would like to give something back and organised a fundraising event, which included entertainment, a supper, an auction and a raffle.

After promoting the event to friends and family, Amanda decided to advertise via social media and received an amazing response.

Amanda said: “I never realised how popular the event was going to be. We sold 250 tickets and many more wanted to come but we were up to the maximum volume for the venue!

“I cannot thank Moorgate Ward enough. The staff were absolutely fantastic and always went above and beyond, not only to Josh but to the rest of the family as well. It was a very scary time and I know that without this ward, Josh wouldn’t have survived. I really can never thank them enough.”

Edward Cox, Matron for Critical Care and Neurosurgery, said: “I would like to say a big thank you from myself and the team on Moorgate to Josh and his family for raising this amount of money. This is a very kind donation and it will really help to improve the environment for the patients and their families.”
