East Devon’s MP visited Royal Devon University Healthcare’s (RDUH) Exmouth Hospital to celebrate the million-pound refurbishment works at the site.

Simon Jupp MP was greeted at the hospital by the Chair of the League of Friends of Exmouth Hospital David Bassett.

During the visit, Simon Jupp MP welcomed the recent investments into the hospital which now total at £1.5 million. This money has been used to support refurbishment in key areas of the site, including the Doris Heard Ward, operational theatre, and its recovery room.

As part of this million-pound regeneration, the League of Friends have donated over £250,000 to fund the refurbishment of the previously closed Geoffrey Willoughby ward which provides pre- and post-operative care for day case surgery and the former day case rooms as a new General Outpatients section.

Commenting after his visit to Exmouth Hospital, Simon Jupp MP said: “I would like to thank the team at Exmouth Hospital for their invitation to discuss local healthcare. Exmouth Hospital helps take the pressure off the RD&E and provides important services for people closer to their homes.”

“Over £1.5 million has recently been spent on Exmouth Hospital through public funding and the League of Friends. The substantial investment has significantly refurbished the hospital so it can provide better care for to suit patients’ needs. The government is making the largest health capital investment in a decade, making a real difference to the lives of NHS staff and patients. Investment includes the flagship hospital rebuilding programme, new community diagnostic centres such as the Nightingale in Exeter, and mental health urgent and emergency care facilities.”

“I’ll continue to engage with the fantastic team at Exmouth Hospital and reflect the feeling on the front line in my regular discussions with Health and Social Care Ministers.”
