Devon Girls Golf Team Captain Sophie Page arranged a very successful fundraising golf day last summer to raise money for the Devon Girls Fund and Guide Dogs.

The day was co-organised between Colin Thomas, Sophie and Hannah Stephens (Devon Girls Team Manager), the Devon Girls squad and parents who assisted in the lead up and on the day.

Thanks to the efforts of everyone who took part, either from joining in with a team, taking part in the silent auction, buying raffle tickets or doing on-course fundraising activities on the day, just over £5,000 was raised.

This fundraising supplements the funding and support received from Devon Golf and helps ensure the girls’ coaching and events are accessible to all those who earn a place in the squad.

Special thanks to East Devon Golf Club, who very kindly gave courtesy of the course and hosted the event so fantastically; Maria Nolan the general manager, the greens staff and bar & catering teams really do know how to host a golf day!

For the Guide Dogs charity, these funds will help support their work for people with sight loss. Every day, 250 people in the UK start to lose their sight. Raising money for Guide Dogs helps to ensure that blind and partially sighted people can continue to live independently. Sophie recently presented the cheque with the final amount of £2,532.00 to Guide Dogs.

Pam Gratton, Community Fundraising Manager at Guide Dogs, said:  “We are so grateful to the Devon Girls Team for organising this golf day and selecting Guide Dogs as their chosen charity. The funds raised mean we can continue supporting people with sight loss in Devon and beyond – through providing information and advice, rehabilitation support and of course our life-changing dogs. Thank you to everyone who took part.”
