A day dedicated to play on Plymouth Hoe

Play providers from across the city will take over Plymouth Hoe, offering a wide range of free play activities for children and young people and their families.

Playday is the biggest play-sector event in the UK, and possibly Europe! As well as a celebration of children's right to play, Playday is a campaign that highlights the importance of play in children's lives.

In 2015 Plymouth will be celebrating Playday by holding a giant play event on Plymouth Hoe. The day is organised by Plymouth Play Events Group, a newly formed partnership between Plymouth City Council and 3 local voluntary organisations - Plymouth Play Association, One Step Beyond (Community Play Projects) and East End Development Trust (Sutton Play Project).

Councillor Sue McDonald, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Public Health said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for parents to take time out of their busy schedule to play with their children. Our Play Day is free and provides the perfect opportunity for families to enjoy free, fun, quality time together.”

Lesley Peate, Project Manager of the Plymouth Play Association said: “We are so excited that we can take over Plymouth Hoe on Wednesday 5 August as part of Playday 2015. We will be offering a wide range of free play activities for children and young people. These will include craft activities, go-carts & ride-ons, face-painting, infinity tower, bouncy castle, giant games area, reading corner, Ping!, music and dance, balloon modelling and more!”

Playday is co-ordinated by Play England, in partnership with Play Wales, Play Scotland and Play Board Northern Ireland.
