Witches, wisht hounds and piskies - Dartmoor's legends are perfect for Halloween-themed events taking place across the National Park's visitor centres this half term week.

From 22 - 30 October, the visitor centres at Haytor, Postbridge and Princetown are hosting activities based on Dartmoor’s spooky stories including mask making and haunted trails.

Families can visit the craft tables at each centre and get creative using Dartmoor's legends as inspiration for their work. Design a mask that shows your version of a Wisht hound, the beasts of Dartmoor that haunt the night, or perhaps make a piskie face inspired by the little people in the legend of the bed of tulips or be inspired by bats, the real creatures of the night.

On Wednesday 26 October, National Park staff Andy Bailey and Claire Partridge are hosting a 'moppets, muppets and ghostly puppets' workshop at Princetown from 1.30pm - 3.30pm. Children can get creative and make their own petrifying puppet inspired by Vixana, the witch of Vixen Tor.

Email the centre to book a place on the workshop.

As Heath Flowers Bloom, an exhibition by photography student Jake Tebbutt is still showing at the National Park Visitor Centre, Princetown. People have until November 17 to visit this exploration of Dartmoor's ancient pathways.

The Authority's visitor centres make great starting points for a visit to the National Park, whether you are new to the area or a frequent visitor. They are free to visit but donations for Donate for Dartmoor are welcome in return.

Friendly, knowledgeable staff can help people make the best of their outing and the centres are stocked with maps, books and leaflets, and quality locally-sourced gifts from The Dartmoor Range.

Visit the National Park website to find games and downloads and information on the Ranger Ralph Club
