Work to improve the zebra crossing at the bottom of Alma Road (near the junction of Whittington Street) will begin tomorrow (Tuesday 10 February).

The refuge in the middle of the crossing is being widened to provide more space for pedestrians and new tactile paving will be provided on either side for the visually impaired.

Lane closures will be in place in both directions during the works and motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.

From Tuesday 10 to Tuesday 24 February the two outside lanes of Alma Road will be closed between Whittington Street and Pennycomequick roundabout (including one lane on the roundabout).

The two inside lanes will then be closed on Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 February while the tactile paving is installed.

Our highways contractor Amey has designed the new crossing and is carrying out the work.
