Police have released CCTV images of a suspect after a Plymouth man’s life was put at risk when someone tampered with his car.

The victim was driving his Audi on the A38 near to Ivybridge when it suddenly pulled to the left, span around and ended up facing the wrong way. The driver managed to get control of the car but the wheel was left buckled.

On examination it was found that the nearside tyre had been deliberately punctured. Police believe the vehicle was attacked while it was parked in Hastings Street, Plymouth, in the early hours of 30 May.

The owner, a man in his 40s, had checked the car before driving as it had been scratched a number of times before but he did not notice anything untoward.

Police have released CCTV images of a suspect and are appealing to anyone who may recognise the photograph to contact them.

PC Natalie Symons, based at Charles Cross, said: “Luckily the driver escaped unhurt but he was left extremely distressed by this incident. The crime is criminal damage but the offender's actions did endanger the life of the victim.

“We would like anyone who recognises the suspect to contact us by telephoning 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, quoting EC/13/5684.”
