Council leader and City Centre Manager step into another world
Shhhh, don’t tell anyone but the Council leader and City Centre Manager have been seeing strange creatures…
Councillor Tudor Evans and Stefan Krause stepped into another world created by Effervescent, the arts organisation, to see for themselves the magical woodland created inside the Radiant Art Gallery at Derry’s Cross.
The unique theatrical experience for the young and young-at-heart has been wowing visitors and has been name-checked in the Guardian newspaper’s top 10 modern grottoes and in the Sunday Times at the weekend.
The Guardian said: “Modern grottoes are more arty and immersive, with elaborate productions designed to whisk your child away to a magical world.
“One example is the Radiant Art Gallery in Plymouth, which has an artist-designed miniature theatre experience involving woodland folk and a sleeping snow creature.”
The Sunday Times described it as “a mesmerizingly interactive Santa-free zone. Led by a singing, dancing ‘reindeer’, kids must search a wintery forest for ways to wake a slumbering snow creature.”
Council leader Tudor Evans said: “This is lovely. It’s not often I get to talk to a deer. Kids will love it and it feels really special.
“I’m delighted that this very original experience has come to national attention. It’s imaginative, creative and brings people into the city centre. It is one of three grottos we have in the city so people will have plenty of choice”
The Art Gallery is next to Rumpuscosy, a tea shop run by Effervescent, in premises which used to be an empty bank. The social enterprise has been supported by Plymouth Your Space project, an initiative run by the Council, the Plymouth City Centre Company, Plymouth Waterfront Partnership alongside Plymouth University and City College Plymouth.
