Plymouth’s Central Library will be celebrating World Book Night on Thursday 23 April with a special event featuring local author Laura Quigley.

The library will be staying open until 9pm and people can drop in, enjoy free refreshments and share their favourite books with other readers.

At 7pm there will be a chance to find out more about the history of Plymouth as Laura gives a talk about her 2014 book South West Secret Agents, a World War Two spy story based on real events. There will be a chance to ask the author questions and buy some of her books.

Laura’s talk is free but places are limited and booking is recommended. Call in at your local library or book online at plymouthlibraryevents.eventbrite.co.uk.

As part of World Book Night the Reading Agency also produces specially printed editions of 20 titles and volunteer ‘book givers’ hand these out to people in their communities, workplaces and libraries who don’t read for pleasure or own books.

Twenty-seven passionate book lovers from Plymouth have been approved as World Book Night volunteers this year and will be collecting their book boxes from local libraries across the city.

Deputy Council Leader Peter Smith said: “World Book Night is a great opportunity for book lovers to get together and share their love of books and reading. By keeping the library open late, we hope to encourage people to come along and find out what the library now has to offer, including eBooks and digital magazines.”
