You are invited to tour and give feedback about an innovative form of carbon neutral social housing, that could come to a community near you.

The demonstration house, which is in the car park of East Devon District Council's (EDDC) Blackdown House headquarters in Honiton, will be open for anyone living in East Devon to view, on Friday 28 July and Saturday 29 July from 10am-2pm.

The builder of these modular homes specialises in consulting communities and adapting developments to reflect their wishes. Once visitors have looked around the property on these open days, they will be asked to share their thoughts in a survey, which will help shape East Devon's social housing plans.

The show house has one bedroom, but homes with two or three bedrooms would be constructed too. These carbon neutral houses feature solar panels, heat pumps and triple glazing, which would reduce running costs for occupants. This housing solution could maximise the use of land which traditionally would have been difficult to build upon.

Representatives from Devon Home Choice and ECOE will be joined by EDDC's housing allocations, housing task forcecommunity developmentclimate change and financial resilience teams at stalls near the show house. Free refreshments will be provided to visitors.

Councillor Dan Ledger, EDDC's portfolio holder for Sustainable Homes and Communities said: "We look forward to welcoming as many residents as possible to take a tour and give their thoughts on these new homes for East Devon. Focusing on reducing fuel poverty for our tenants whilst delivering a high-quality carbon neutral home, this seems like a solid solution for the district. Hopefully, residents will agree, and this is one of the initial steps in delivering the Council's ambition of sustainable homes and communities for all."
