Liznojan is an independent mother-daughter bookshop in Tiverton, Devon, who first opened their doors in 2017.

As is probably the case with most bookshops at this time of year, they get asked recommendations for Mother’s Day gifts a lot.

They generally start with “which books have you recently enjoyed?” and then choose around five titles for the purchaser to choose.

So, sticking with the format, below are five book recommendations from Liznojan based on what your loved one may enjoy.

They loved ‘Lessons in Chemistry’ so maybe try ‘A Bookshop of One’s Own’, Jane Cholmeley.

“The captivating true story of an underdog business – a feminist bookshop founded in Thatcher’s Britain – from a woman at the heart of the women’s liberation movement.”

This mum needs some escapism, maybe has young children and needs an easy read? ‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’ is the ticket. By Sarah J Maas

“Dragged away from her family for the murder of a faerie, Feyre discovers that her captor, his face obscured by a jewelled mask, is hiding even more than his piercing green eyes suggest.”

So many of us have a soft spot for ‘Where the Crawdad’s Sing’, now it’s time to read ‘The Women’ by Kristen Hannah.

'It honours ALL women: those who have fought for their rights and freedoms, those who have been overlooked and underappreciated, those who have been forgotten by families and society.'

Prefer non-fiction? I think they’ll enjoy ‘Fearless’ by Louise Minchin.

‘Driven to bring more attention to female stories of courage and endeavour, Louise Minchin pushes herself to the extreme and embarks on thrilling endurance adventures with trailblazing women.’

Needing some comforting, wise words as we slowly move into spring? Try ‘Wild Hope’ by Donna Ashworth.

‘A powerful new collection of wisdom to help us find hope, peace, self-acceptance and inspiration on the days we feel worn down, helpless or sad.’
