The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth is bursting with life now that spring is on its way, and the Spring Wildlife Hunt trail is the perfect excuse to get out with family and friends to explore the sanctuary and combine exercise and brainpower.

The resident donkeys play an important part in increasing the biodiversity of wildlife across the sanctuary. Their hooves and coats spread seeds far and wide, boosting the ecosystem to allow new fauna and flora to flourish.

By following clues from their trail sheet, people will be able to discover wildlife boards around the sanctuary and match them up with the stickers provided. Trail sheets cost £5 each and include a prize on completion, which over the Easter holidays is a chocolate Easter Egg.

On selected dates across the Easter holidays, visitors will also be able to join a free guided Spring Family Walk with one of the charity’s conservation team and find out more about the wildlife that share the sanctuary with the resident donkeys.

The Donkey Sanctuary is free to visit, and parking is free. Set in the heart of the East Devon countryside, overlooking the world-famous Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site there are miles of walkways to explore. The sanctuary is also dog-friendly, and dogs on leads are welcome.

There are of course hundreds of adorable donkeys to meet, as well as daily talks, engaging exhibits, scenic walks, a new children’s playpark and a maze to explore, while the Gift Shop is the ideal place to pick up a souvenir, safe in the knowledge that every purchase supports the work of the charity.

When it’s time for a break The Kitchen restaurant is the perfect place to take sanctuary. The award-winning restaurant has an extensive menu, using fresh, local seasonal produce, with unparalleled views of the Weston valley and the sparkling sea beyond.

The Donkey Sanctuary is open every day from 9am – 5pm.
