Justine Flett aims to raise £5,000 for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) by setting a new women’s record for the 630 mile South West Coast Path challenge starting on Sunday 14 May.

The South West Coast Path is a journey along the coastline of England’s southwest peninsula following the longest continuous footpath in the UK from Minehead in Somerset to Poole in Dorset. The trail has a wealth of stunning natural scenery, sea views, pretty ports and historic county towns. The current record stands at 18 days but Justine strives to complete this in just over 15.

Justine, aged 51 started her running journey 7 years ago and since then she has progressed rapidly and soon discovered that longer distances and multi-day events are where she feels most comfortable.

Justine said she wanted to take on this running challenge to give back to a local children’s charity and to test her resolve physically and mentally, to have the courage of a lion to achieve what can seem unachievable.

Justine said: “I know this will not be easy as parts of the route are extremely strenuous, but I believe life is a true gift and I wanted to push myself to inspire others. I want to use this adventure to raise funds to help children with life-limiting conditions who may never have this opportunity”.

Devon’s Little Bridge House provides care and support to families who have children with life-limiting conditions. The hospice provides services including specialist palliative care, family respite, emergency support, end of life care and a bereavement service.

Lucie Perryman, Area Fundraiser for CHSW, said: “At Children’s Hospice South West, we can only provide this special care thanks to such incredible support and generosity, like Justine’s. We will be with her every step of the way”.
