This Sunday, a special group of family and friends will be taking to the streets of Plymouth to run the half marathon in memory of Andrea Norris. Known as Team Andrea, the group will be running in aid of the Gold Dust Appeal.

Andrea Norris, former executive head teacher of Beechwood and Oakwood Primary Schools, in Southway, sadly died unexpectedly in April 2015.

After nearly £5,000.00 was raised after her funeral for the Gold Dust Appeal, Andrea’s loved ones thought it would mean a huge amount to fundraise for the appeal because of her love and dedication to working with and caring for children.

Team Andrea said: “For over 20 years, the group, made up of two families, have been very close and have all grown up together.

“Our infamous ‘Norrie’ nights continue as often as we can all gather together and the numbers have increased gradually over the years as girlfriends and boyfriends (and now daughter in law and two grandsons in our case) have joined us.”

Team Andrea is made up of Jo, husband John, son Chris, daughter in law Zoe and daughters Alex and Lizzie. Andrea's eldest son, Joe, is also running with his girlfriend Lauren, and her youngest son, Charlie, is running with his friend Charlie.

“We decided to support the Gold Dust Appeal in Andrea's memory as it's a cause we feel would have been very close to her. As a team, we would like to thank everyone for the continued support and we hope to do Andrea proud!”

Emma Cronin, Gold Dust Appeal Fundraising Manager, said: “I would like to thank everyone who is running for our Gold Dust Appeal or has sponsored them – running 13.1 miles is a huge achievement in itself, but to do this in aid of the appeal is extra special!

“It is an incredible tribute to Andrea, especially with her sons and close friends running, and I would like to thank the team for their support.

“Good luck to everyone involved, thank you so much for your support, and we look forward to cheering you on!”

The Gold Dust Appeal aims to raise £100,000 to create bright, exciting and welcoming wards for local children and young people at Derriford Hospital. We want to be able to care for children in a stimulating and sensitive environment with bright and spacious surroundings, which will provide greater comfort and privacy for children and their families.
