Tea dances raise £744 for SW Mesothelioma Support Group

Tea Dances held in Plymouth at the Guildhall on 31 July and City College on 1 August raised a grand total of £744 for the South West Mesothelioma Support Group (a registered charity based at The Macmillan Mustard Tree Centre, Derriford Hospital), whilst at the same time raising awareness of asbestos related cancer.

A total of 140 people attended both events which were organised by mesothelioma patient Wally Wright alongside members of Mesothelioma and Asbestos Awareness Plymouth and SouthWest (MAAPS).

Wally said; 'Thanks go to asbestos specialist solicitors Novum Law for their support and sponsorship, plus all those who attended or helped with the refreshments and raffle.'

Helen Grady of Novum Law said; 'Events like this raise awareness of the dangers of asbestos and its links to mesothelioma. Each year nationally there are 2500 mesothelioma deaths and better awareness of asbestos should reduce this appalling figure.'

MAAPS is a support and friendship group for those diagnosed or affected by an asbestos related condition and meets on the last Thursday of each month at 12.30pm in the Copthorne Hotel, Plymouth. New members are welcome.

The next charity dance with music by 'Wally's Dance Party' will be held on Saturday 29th August 2015 from 8pm -11.30pm in the main hall at City College Plymouth. Tickets cost £6.00 (which includes refreshments) and can be purchased on the door. There is free parking.
