On Sunday 21st June, staff from Derriford Hospital's Research and Development Team are taking part in the Race for Life, to raise the profile of research and make the public aware that cancer research takes place in Plymouth.

A team of 59 have entered the race, all of whom are extremely passionate about research and have personally and professionally experienced the effects of cancer for themselves.

Lisa Vickers, Research and Development Manager at Derriford Hospital said: “We wanted to participate in the fundraising as many of the studies that we are involved with are funded by Cancer Research UK, which contributes to what we do on a day to day basis.

“Earlier this year, our dear friend and colleague, Sue Jones, died of pancreatic cancer and we all miss her very much.

“In her memory, the R&D team decided that as many of us as possible would enter the Race for Life. By wearing our orange t-shirts, we are going to try to raise the profile of Cancer Research here in Plymouth, so that more people would be willing to participate in research studies here at Derriford. This would lead to better and faster research and ultimately to more people beating cancer. So Sue, this is for you...”
