Gala Bingo, the UK’s largest bingo operator, today announces the launch of its new charity game to raise £250,000 in six months for Variety – The Children’s Charity. The game launched on Monday 29th June with Bobby Davro calling the game. The money will be in addition to the £500,000 already raised by the Bingo Association, of which Gala Bingo is part of.

These fundraising efforts will go towards a pledge made by The Bingo Association to raise a staggering one million pounds by the end of 2018.

The new game is played in-house in all of Gala Bingo’s 129 clubs, so there will be a guaranteed winner in every club. If customers call a special number, there is a chance for them to double their prize money. A proportion of the ticket cost will go to the Charity.

The money raised by the new game will be used to buy Sunshine Coaches, powered and sports wheelchairs in addition to funding a number of memorable days and outings for disabled and disadvantaged children across the UK.

Colleen Ettridge, Head of Fundraising at Variety, the Children’s Charity, said:  “We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the Bingo Association and its customers and would like to say a huge thank you to Gala Bingo for launching this game to bring in even more funds.  Since 1962, Variety has donated over 5,400 Sunshine Coaches to schools across the UK so we can give disabled and disadvantaged children and young people the opportunity to get so much more out of life.”

Bobby Davro, Actor, Musician and Impersonator, said: “As a long standing supporter of Variety, the Children's Charity, I am delighted to help launch a new fundraising initiative by Gala Bingo Clubs that aims to raise £250,000 for Variety.  I know what a difference these funds will make to the lives of children and young people throughout the UK."

Simon Shaw Chief Retail Officer at Gala Bingo, comments: “Gala Bingo pride themselves on giving back to the community.  By working with Variety - The Children’s Charity it has allowed us to do just that. I would like to thank the continued support and generosity of our staff and our customers who are going to help us reach our target.”

Miles Baron, Chief Executive of the Bingo Association said: “We are delighted that Gala Bingo has launched this exciting Charity game in aid of Varity – The Children’s Charity. As a Trade Association, it is fantastic news when your biggest member gets behind an industry initiative in the way that Gala Bingo has. With Gala’s support, the Bingo Association will definitely reach its target of £1 million in four years.”
