South West housebuilder Allison Homes is supporting this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week (15th – 21st May) by confirming the ongoing partnership with Lighthouse Club the Construction Industry Charity.

As part of this collaboration the house builder is participating in the charity’s “Help Inside the Hard Hat on Site” campaign which aims to shine a light on mental health challenges within the construction industry and promote a culture of well-being and support.

According to the Institute of Government & Public Policy, men within the construction industry are three times more likely to commit suicide than the national average with two construction workers reportedly taking their own lives daily.

Lighthouse Club states stress, depression and anxiety account for 27% of workplace absence in the industry according to the charity which runs a construction industry vital helpline which all Allison Homes construction teams have access to as part of this ongoing relationship.

Allison Homes has recently welcomed a local team from the charity to its High Moor View development in Winkleigh and Foxglove View in Buckland Brewer. Workers on site were given access to a series of mental well-being talks designed specifically for people working in the construction industry. The charity will be visiting all Allison Homes’ sites across the South West in the coming weeks.

The leading South West housebuilder is also proactively encouraging its team to recognise signs of deteriorating mental health in their colleagues and proactively seek support through their partnership with Lighthouse Club.

Head of Sales at Allison Homes, Michele Jones said: “We take our team’s mental health extremely seriously. Our industry is male-dominated and mental health is not often talked about, nor is support sought. Our ongoing partnership with Lighthouse Club gives us the reassurance that we are doing what we can to support our site teams to provide resources and active help as well as raising awareness about any mental health concerns they may be experiencing.”
