Throughout the month of June, hotels, restaurants, pubs and cafés across Devon join forces to offer diners one-off deals, special seasonal menus, chef demos and exclusive events as part of Devon Restaurant Month. Now in its fourth year, Devon Restaurant Month aims to put the county more firmly on the map for food tourism in the South West and beyond.

Michael Smith, chairman of Food & Drink Devon, is proud to be associated with the campaign: “Devon Restaurant Month provides Devon’s outstanding restaurants with an opportunity to showcase their products to a foodie market keen on provenance and quality,” he says. “It also highlights the abundance Devon has to offer to all food and drink lovers around the country.”

Venues who have already confirmed involvement in this year’s Devon Restaurant Month include The Royal Castle in Dartmouth, Hannah’s at Seale-Hayne in Newton Abbot and Buckland Tout Saints Hotel, near Kingsbridge. Among those taking part is Home Farm Café in Parke, Bovey Tracey and Stella West-Harling explains why: “We believe that we have some of the finest produce in the UK here on our doorstep. Most of our ingredients come from within 20 miles of the café. For us, it is all about cooking fresh from scratch when ingredients are at their very best,” she explains. Throughout June, Home Farm Café serves a delicious three-course field kitchen menu plus free coffee and petit fours for just £18, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings (call 01626 830016 to book).

Back for a second year, The Royal Castle Hotel, Dartmouth and The Royal Seven Stars, Totnes will be running ‘Devonians Stay for Free!’ During June (Monday – Thursday) guests who are lucky enough to live in Devon will be able to enjoy a special ‘Devon Taster Menu’ for just £45 per person and stay in the hotel for one night absolutely free. Call The Royal Castle Hotel on 01803 833033 or The Royal Seven Stars on 01803 862125 to secure your place.

Another key supporter of the Devon Restaurant Month is Taste of the West, headed up by John Sheaves: “We’re really pleased to support this important initiative as it backs our vision of showcasing our region's culinary excellence.” He continues: “This sort of promotion is key to the region's visitor experience. It's a fantastic campaign with a great message."
