Eventually, the double glazing in any home will need to be replaced, and this is a job that understandably people put off until they absolutely have to. A rough estimate for the length of time that double-glazing will last is about 20 years, but that is of course only if they are constructed from good materials and fitted by a professional such as 1st Scenic Ltd

Double-glazed windows are without a doubt the most popular type of window in the UK and they have been for about 40 years now. Most homeowners will more than likely have to think about getting them replaced at some point throughout their life. So, if you are a homeowner then it is best to keep an eye out on the most common signs that might mean you should probably start thinking about getting them replaced.

An obvious sign that you should look out for is if there is any damage or chips in the windowpane, even though this is obvious it is so important that it needs to be mentioned. Even if there is a small chip or crack you don’t want the problem to worsen so it is best to deal with that early. If you don’t replace the double glazing when it is damaged then you will more than likely have to deal with draughts on a daily basis. Not only draughts but you will also most likely have to deal with leaks coming in.

Another common sign that you should be on the lookout for is if there are any draughts coming from the window. If your home is becoming increasingly harder to heat then that is a strong indicator that your double glazing might need to be replaced. It's possible that the seals or sealants are starting to degrade, while you may be able to get away with just replacing them. Sometimes replacing the double glazing as a whole is the better option. Since your home will have become harder to heat you will also most likely be spending more money on your heating bill than you have to.

Condensation is also something that you should be aware of. If your double-glazing is starting to have more and more issues surrounding the amount of condensation building up then that will also be a sign that you should replace the double glazing. When the volume of condensation increases that is most likely an indicator that the seals are starting to go, again you might be able to just replace the seals but that is not always the case and you might need to start thinking about replacement.

Double-glazed windows are designed in a way so as to conserve the heat in your home so if your heating bills are going up then that very well might mean that you have a problem with your windows. If you are having to turn the heating on more frequently or for longer periods of time than you are used to then definitely take a look at your double glazing to see if they are causing this problem.

These are really the most common signs that your double-glazing needs to be replaced so it is important to be aware of these. There are more but if you aren’t sure, you could always consider getting a consultation with an expert to see what their opinion is.
