A perfect community and home for Issy and Ian at Romansfield, in a property that ticks all their boxes

When Issy and Ian Magee decided to downsize their home, they had a long list of requirements for the new property. As their children had grown up and moved overseas, they knew that they wanted a property that featured a large communal area for when their children and grandchildren came to visit. Issy is a keen chef, and when the family visits she wants to spend all of her time with them and not be separated in the kitchen while they relax in the living space.

The couple spent a while looking across the entire region; Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset, and nothing was turning their heads, or ticking off their list of requirements. The couple were driving through Okehampton one day and discovered Redrow’s Romansfield development.

They were instantly drawn to the layout of the development and surroundings. Most importantly, the layout of the Shaftsbury home on offer was exactly what Issy, Ian and their family needed.

Issy explains: “As soon as we saw the Shaftsbury we knew it would be perfect for us. We walked in, and Ian said, “our home”, which was completely right. Not only did it have a spacious family room combining dining, cooking and relaxing space, it also had access directly to the garden from the shared space, so we could wash off a muddy dog outside and let her in and out directly from the garden.”

Dealing with the sales team was a dream too. The couple felt welcomed from the first introduction; no pressure and they were given the space and time to explore the property, development and facilities in peace.

Along their journey, when registering their interest with developers and agents, one of the key things that Issy in particular found extremely stressful, was the pushiness of the sales consultants and teams. As she explains:  “There were some instances where we had visited properties or simply just expressed interest, and the repeated follow up calls got so frequent and intense that I simply had to block the contact. One lady even told us to drop our house price for a quick sale!

“Dealing with Redrow was a dream from the start. Not only were the properties a cut above the rest – they almost sell themselves, they are so perfect – the team, from the initial sales contacts to the site manager checking everything was OK for the first week or so, were just lovely.

“There was no pressure, and they were with us every step of the way. When Covid19 hit in early 2020, and we went into lockdown, we had weekly calls from the team. They would explain where everything was in terms of development and just reassure us about our purchase and moving journey. At a time riddled with uncertainty everywhere, this was such a welcome reassurance to us. We felt so looked after.”

As the year progressed and the houses on the development were completed, Redrow slowly moved new residents in over October, November and December, creating a brand new community that Issy is a firm feature of.

“As we were all moving in one after another, we became this close-knit community, particularly after Covid and the restrictions that had placed on our lives. Whether it be just bumping into each other dog walking, or via Instagram, where I’d search for new residents and they’d search for me. The closeness means we all look out for each other, and even recently when I was away for a short stay, Ian was offered a home-cooked meal by neighbours - it is just a lovely community.”

And would Issy and Ian recommend Redrow to other buyers? In a heartbeat. They are already recommending them to their first-time buyer nieces and nephews.

Within easy reach of both Exeter and Plymouth, and just minutes from the wide-open spaces of Dartmoor National Park, Okehampton is a popular destination for anyone who wants to sample an active, outdoor life. The Okehampton train station recently reopened after 50 years of being  shut, with hourly trains now running direct  to Exeter. The development is therefore providing the best of both worlds; peaceful rural surroundings and access to the a vibrant urban city life.

Kevin Bradford area sales manager for the South West says: “It is such a delight to meet people like Issy and Ian and to be able to point them towards their dream homes. Romansfield is a beautiful development to live in and it has such a strong community, perfect for anyone tired of the isolation that the pandemic brought upon us. The development of Romansfield sits in a beautiful part of Devon, in the South West and  features a stunning range of homes from our heritage collection.  We would love to welcome people to have a look around our stunning showhomes, and have a chat about the homes that we have available.”
