Plymotion offers travel advice and a chance to win a £100 gift voucher

Plymouth City Council are offering residents in Keyham, Devonport, Stonehouse, the city centre and the Barbican a chance to win one of five £100 gift vouchers as part of our Plymotion project.

Plymotion is a three-year initiative that aims to improve walking, cycling and public transport links and encourage people to try greener, cheaper and healthier ways of getting around.

One strand – Plymotion on Your Doorstep – involves travel advisors visiting local residents, chatting about how they get around the city and providing advice on the different travel options available to them. The team give residents one-to-one help with planning their journeys as well as information about various travel incentives on offer.

The programme started in Mount Gould and St Judes last year and over the summer the team knocked on around 5,200 doors, had 1,004 conversations and handed out 866 bus tickets, 358 cycle maps and 559 water bottles.

This year the team are heading to the west of the city and the programme will be even bigger as they are hoping to visit almost 18,000 properties. Before they start knocking on doors they would like to get an initial picture of how people currently get from A to B and how aware they are of alternative travel options. This information will be used to assess the impact of Plymotion on Your Doorstep on the way people travel.

Councillor Mark Coker, Cabinet Member for Transport said: “We had a great start to the Plymotion on Your Doorstep programme last year, with many residents telling us how useful their chat with our travel advisors was. We hope that residents in Keyham, Devonport, Stonehouse, the Barbican and the city centre also find the visits helpful.”

Residents are being asked to take part in a 10-minute survey, with a chance to win one of five £100 high street gift vouchers. Households included in the survey will either receive a copy through their letterbox or be invited to complete it on their doorstep. The survey can also be completed online via our Plymotion on Your Doorstep web page.

Councillor Coker said: “The travel surveys are a really important part of the Plymotion programme. The information we gather will help us to understand what shapes the way people travel and what advice and measures will be most useful to them. The surveys also allow us to see how helpful people find the Plymotion on Your Doorstep programme. The more information we have, the more informed we are when making future decisions that affect transport provision in the city.”
