Paul Turner from Hartley has donated two valuable books to Derriford Hospital today to say ‘thank you’ to the staff that helped him through a difficult time.

Mr Turner said: “On returning from a family holiday, I noticed a small lump in my neck.  I visited my local GP and was referred to Derriford Hospital for tests where I was then diagnosed with cancer.

“After surgery I faced chemotherapy and radiotherapy but unfortunately, during this treatment I suffered a heart attack followed by a stroke, delaying my treatment until I had made sufficient recovery.

“Life has been extremely tough but with the care and dedication of the maxillo-facial, ENT and oncology teams, the support of my wife, family and friends who have helped and supported me during my treatment my recovery would have been more difficult.

Mr Turner explains how the money was raised: “We celebrated our Silver Anniversary recently and decided against receiving any gifts and our kind family and friends made donations for the purpose of purchasing these two valuable informative books for the hospital. My wife and I are delighted to donate these books for the benefit of others.”

Mr Turner continued: “I cannot express enough my thanks to everyone who has helped me to remain positive and optimistic during this most difficult time of my life.

“I can only stress that if you feel that things aren’t right then visit your GP and act without delay.
