A Plymouth dentist is urging residents to register for NHS dental treatment after experiencing a surge in patients who had not seen a dentist for 10 years or more.

The appeal was made after it was revealed by the British Dental Health Foundation (BDHF) that people who visit the dentist annually reduce their risk of tooth decay by 60 per cent.

Mydentist Practice manager Louise Ivins, said: “We see the impact on patients’ teeth if they don’t visit the dentist regularly and we have NHS places available so there is no reason for people in the town not to register and receive regular treatment.

“I think people have a perception of the dentist’s surgery as being a cold sterile place smelling of disinfectant. This is no longer the case.”

“Our practice is professional and friendly, our waiting room is decorated in warm greys and teal greens and is scented with jasmine to put people at ease when they visit us.”

Research from the BDHF also revealed that 31 per cent of adults have tooth decay and 29 per cent suffer from regular dental pain.

The practice provides NHS and private dentistry and is open 8am to 5pm Mondays to Fridays.

Plymouth mydentist is at Crownhill Road, Westpark and is part of the largest providers of dental care in the UK.

Patients should call 01752 361636  or visit www.mydentist.co.uk to make an appointment.
