Double award-winning Ottery café Coldharbour Field Kitchen is reintroducing its popular tapas nights just after the Easter weekend.

The tasty tapas went down a storm last summer before evening dining was paused for the winter months. But from April 14 diners will once again be able to enjoy freshly made small plates on Fridays and Saturdays from 6.30 to 9.30pm.

Quality food is sure-fire at Coldharbour, which scooped a gold award in the Devon Tourism Awards and a silver in the South West Regional Finals - after being open for less than a year.

The Field Kitchen was created last year by local trades with plenty of recycled materials incorporated into the design along with green energy solutions. It offers a quirky and welcoming dining area whilst outside is an expansive decked area overlooking Ottery St Mary and the local countryside.

Co-owner Andrea Broadhurst says “While there’s room for around 40 covers inside the Field Kitchen, as the weather warms up the decking is definitely the place to be! We’re so blessed to have stunning views across East Devon and on a clear evening, the most incredible sunsets.”

Andrea’s partner in the business, Beth Ashfield heads up the food offering. She has been busy revamping the tapas menu to introduce a more mixed cuisine. “This year we’ll be mixing up Spanish, Moroccan and Middle Eastern small plates featuring a wider range of ingredients from charcuterie, cheeses, oils and preserves, smoked and cured fish to meat bred at Coldharbour Farm.

“And as well as new dishes, we’re planning to welcome some local acoustic musicians to add some extra atmosphere. These will be occasional rather than regular events so we’ll publicise them on our social media.”

Also new for 2023 is a wood fired oven which is due to be delivered any day soon. “It’s going to be housed in a funky shipping container, and we’re excited to add even more variety to our menus, such as fresh pizzas, slow roast meats, baked fish - and additional vegetarian and vegan options.”

In the meantime,  the Field Kitchen has recently introduced a vegetarian breakfast that’s gone down a storm. A plate packed with flavours, from Beth’s famous bubble & squeak to avocado topped with cheeky jalapenos, generous slices of halloumi and all the usual breakfast favourites.
