Roulette is one of the oldest, most famous, and most popular casino games, and the introduction of online Roulette has only helped its growth as one of the world’s favourite pastimes! Punters from around the globe can have a spin, or two, on a live, or digitalised, Roulette wheel, with just the click of a button. However, along with the thrills and spills of the age-old game, comes a range of myths – and we’re going to put them bed.

Read on as we debunk some of the most common Roulette myths.

Myth 1: Dealers can control where the ball lands

Ah, the classic ‘dealers can control where the ball lands’ myth! We’ve all heard it before, right? You’re in your local brick-and-mortar casino with your mates, your friend’s number doesn’t land and he blames it on a magnet under the wheel or something along those lines. But is it true? Absolutely not! Due to Roulette’s complete randomness, it’s impossible for the dealer to control, or even anticipate, where the ball will land.

Myth 2: Casinos can fix Roulette wheels

Ok, so that leads us onto the next point; if the dealers don’t rig the Roulette wheels, then the casinos do! People probably get this idea from movies and TV shows, as James Bond never seems to miss a number – so, in this case, yes, of course, it’s rigged for entertainment purposes. However, in real life, there is absolutely no chance that any land-based, or online casino, would take the risk of fixing a Roulette wheel, as they’d be ordered to stop trading! All games – not just Roulette – are tested, verified and approved by an independent adjudicator.

Myth 3: You should always stick to the same type of bet

We all have our favourite numbers or betting patterns when playing Roulette, although, is it always the best strategy to stick to them spin-after-spin? The simple answer is no! You might think your number has to land at some point, however, as mentioned before, Roulette is completely random, so there’s no guarantee that it will! With Roulette having such a vast range of betting options, it may be best to take advantage of this.

Myth 4: Strategies will help you win at the Roulette table

Several casino games have strategies that work, like Blackjack and Texas Hold’em, for example. However, whilst many of us like sticking to our numbers, sections or patterns, many punters also like to stick to strategies, like the Martingale, the Reverse Martingale, and even the James Bond strategy. However, there is no evidence that any of these strategies work, and, once again, we can’t stress enough, that Roulette is completely random – meaning there is no guaranteed way to beat the house!

Myth 5: You can tell where the ball is going to land by looking at previous winning numbers

When playing Roulette online, or in a land-based establishment, you’ll notice that the previous winning numbers are always on display – usually alongside ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ numbers. Punters will often look for patterns, or back the ‘hot’ or ‘cold’ numbers in hope that the ‘hot’ numbers keep rolling in, or that one of the ‘cold’ numbers must be due a temperature change. This is human nature, and you can’t knock them for thinking it. However, any number could roll in on any spin, just as when you flip a coin it could be ‘heads’ or ‘tails’ – there’s no strategy to that either!
